March 11 - Notes from E-Board meeting:  Anyone who submitted a cross bid prior to December 2009 must resubmit their bids to be considered for a new department.   The union would like to get back to having a weekly contracting out meeting with the company to minimize contractors at the plant.  In a health care meeting it was discussed that a member on disability for 2 years must apply for medicare as a primary provider if over 65.  If member is under 65 the company's insurance is their pimary provider.   If an individual is eligible for medicare and does not apply, the company can refuse that bill.


December 5The Union membership has ratified a contract.

November 20 - The Union and company have agreed on a stipulation of contract upon ratification from the membership.  Voting will be held at the Shippingport Community Building on December 4th, if an absentee ballot is needed see your E-Board member.

October 8 - Health care was discussed at the executive board meeting.  Local 272 will no longer be with UPMC.  Next year the provider will be Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.  It has not been decided whether or not to be fully insured or self insured.  Packets will be distributed and information meetings will be held in November.

 
October 5 - Local 272 has a new union building located at 838A Midland Avenue across from Rite Aid.

July 30 - The company has declared a "clear" impasse in negotiations and that further negotiations would be futile.  As a result, the company will implement items they felt necessary of previous offers of settlement effective August 1, 2009. The following portions are those to be implemented:  Work Force Development,  Meal Money will be paid in the paycheck,  Random Drug Testing (effective October 1),  Adoption of the First Energy Fossil Plant Accident Prevention Handbook; discontinuance of the Bruce Mansfield  Accident Prevention Handbook,  Changes to Article VI, sections 3 and 4 regarding qualifications and acceptance of job bids
