Notes
from 2/11/10 - Dale Kronk and Steve DeLong met with other First Energy Union Safety Representatives in Stow,
Ohio. The plants attending were Bruce Mansfield, Sammis, Eastlake, Burger, Bay Shore, Ashtabula, Lake Shore and CT Hydro.
The purpose of this meeting was to figure out why the FE system had so many accidents in the past year.
We discussed the weaknesses and the strengths in the safety programs. Jake Davis (Sammis) and A.J. Vonderembse (East
Lake) were the facilitators. The discussions covered two topics; the safety programs that were
successful and those that were not. We identified the ten best and ten worst programs. We
agreed that the most successful program was the monthly plant Union-Management safety meetings. The
safety program that was the weakest emphasized the need for more training and OJT time. The
meeting was dismissed at 2:00 pm.
